Featuring the ART of Nana Daou ... Flowers Blooming Brightly
NANA ... Suzanna was born and raised in Manhattan ... in the 1960s she moved to Beirut, Lebanon with her husband Arthur Daou. There they lived and worked and raised six children during the Lebanese Civil War. Throughout the war Suzanna began painting in earnest, creating works that rebelled against the landscape of destruction and despair.
Influenced by the Fauves and by the ever-present blues of the Mediterranean, Daou creates paintings that bring color, light and movement into focus with an intensity and passion that seem to demand that the darkness remain in check. Using fluid and dance-like gestures, she allows the paint to float and sway on the surface of the canvases like rays of sunlight that illuminate and reaffirm the possibility that somewhere, always, a flower is blooming.
