The iconic Cafe & Bakery on historic Main Street in Sharon Springs

Black Cat opened on historic Main street in Sharon Springs in 2005 as a scratch bakery, real espresso & coffee bar with free WiFi (at the time internet / WiFi was only available on main streets and in larger towns.) The Cafe offered breakfast and lunch. Everything was locally sourced, anything we could make from scratch and not just soups, but Turkey and Corned Beef which we roasted and hand cut

Filling a need for a comforting eclectic meeting and eating space on Main Street it was an instant success. The Balsamics and condiments began because we made our own … reducing balsamic and adding figs for flavor, and a Mediterranean Lemon Dressing (Olive oil, garlic, lemon & salt). We bought some bottles and put them on every table. Soon people started asking to buy them and our balsamic line began

Fruitcakes were a 4th generation family tradition (from Tony's great grandmother who grew up in England) that we felt the holidays were never complete without— so we baked a few dozen that first Christmas to serve at tables or give as gifts. Again, by popular demand we began making hundreds then thousands every year. We source your ingredients locally, or from local New York businesses or from the source whenever possible, and all natural or organic, always seasonally, and never any chemicals or preservatives We love most about being a local maker the pleasure of creating and producing an excellent product by hand in small batches. Always experimenting, improving. And as a small local maker, providing our community and friends and customers a truly amazing food experience that is healthy and interesting— and buying from and selling to other local businesses
